Ag Processing Inc (AGP) Plans Expansion at Grays Harbor Bulk Shipping Facility Aberdeen, WA 2008 proved to be a record year for the shipping of bulk agricultural products through the Port of Grays Harbor and Ag Processing Inc (AGP) wants to expand upon that success. AGP optioned 13.5 acres adjacent to their state-of-the-art rail unloading station and ship loader located at Port of Grays Harbor Terminal 2. Port Commissioners approved the option at the January 13th Meeting. AGP, headquartered in Omaha, NE, is a farmer-owned cooperative engaged in the procurement, processing, marketing and transportation of grains and grain products. AGP invested in Grays Harbor five years ago to establish an identity-preserved material handling facility for high quality agricultural products. Since then they have shipped more than 2 million metric tons of product through Grays Harbor, reaching markets throughout the Pacific Rim. AGPs expansion would include on-site storage silos for whole grains and additional unloading capacity to service the unit trains delivering product from the Midwest. Additional development will include warehousing for the flat storage of soy meal, distillers dried grain and solubles (DDGS), corn glutton meal, beet pulp pellets, hay cubes, and soil enhancers. This final phase would complement the existing handling of these products by providing on-site storage. The Port of Grays Harbor is an integral part of AGPs international marketing plan, as evidenced by the high volume of agricultural products we ship through the port, said Marty Reagan, AGPs Chief Executive Officer, Our strategic plan includes the continued development of Pacific Rim Markets. Accordingly, we have requested this option as we continue to study the markets and economics of further developing our shipping capabilities at the Port of Grays Harbor. AGP continues to be an excellent shipping partner for Grays Harbor, and the Port is looking forward to working with them to ensure their expansion plans are successful, expressed Port Commission President Stan Pinnick. AGPs commitment to quality customer service and first-rate facilities has benefited Grays Harbor through the increase in shipping activity and the creation of jobs. AGP has shipped more than 2 million metric tons of cargo aboard 117 vessels in Grays Harbor. Upon completion, the planned expansion could generate an additional 30 vessel calls per year providing 50 new marine related jobs. The Port of Grays Harbor, Washington States only deepwater port on the Pacific Coast, operates 4 marine terminals and over 400 acres of industrial property. Only 1-_ vessel hours from open sea, Grays Harbor offers rail and highway access to markets throughout North America. |
