Port of Grays Harbor sets District 1 Commission appointment procedures and schedule

May 2018 – The Port of Grays Harbor has announced its procedures and schedule for appointing a new District 1 Commissioner following Commissioner Chuck Caldwell’s resignation announcement at last week’s Commission Meeting. Commissioner Caldwell’s resignation is effective July 31, 2018, with the new appointment taking effect August 1, 2018.

Applications will be accepted May 15 – June 5, 2018, via email, district1commission@portgrays.org, or by delivery to either the Port’s main office located at 111 S. Wooding Street, Aberdeen, WA 98520 or at the Satsop Business Park’s main office located at 150 Technology Way, Suite 100, Elma, WA 98541. Qualifying applicants must be a registered voter in Grays Harbor County District 1. Completed applications along with proof of residency from the Grays Harbor County Auditor’s Office and proof of voter registration are due no later than 5 p.m. on Tuesday, June 5, 2018.

Following the application deadline, a Special Commission Meeting will be held at 9 a.m. on Thursday, June 7, 2018. The meeting will include an executive session at the beginning of the meeting to review District 1 candidate qualifications. The Special Meeting will then resume to select individuals for interviews to be conducted on Thursday, June 14, 2018, at 5:30 p.m. during a Special Commission Meeting. Following the public interviews, the Port Commission will adjourn into executive session – no decision will be made.

On Tuesday, June 19, 2018, at 9 a.m. another Special Meeting will be held to discuss the merits of the candidates in public session and vote on the candidate to be appointed. The appointment lasts until the next regular Port election in November 2019, at which time anyone seeking to run for the position will have to stand for election in 2019, for the next 6-year term.
