Westport Marina Modernization Plan
The Westport Marina is ranked among the largest seafood landing ports in the United States and is home to Washington’s largest commercial fishing fleet. As the primary hub for seafood processing in the Pacific Northwest, the marina supports vessels from Washington, Oregon, California, Alaska, and British Columbia, offering safe moorage, seafood offloading, and a wide range of essential services.
More than 2,700 jobs are directly connected to the seafood industry in Westport. The economic, social, and historical significance of commercial fishing and seafood processing in rural Grays Harbor County is tremendous. This working waterfront sustains livelihoods, strengthens the local economy, and represents a vital part of the region’s cultural heritage.
With five major seafood processing companies, including an expanding tribal seafood processing facility and over 275 commercial fishing vessels utilizing the marina throughout the year, maintaining a safe and efficient facility is critical to retaining and growing this cornerstone industry. However, nearing 50 years old and built for a fleet of the past, today’s docks are in substantial disrepair and no longer accommodate the longer, wider boats that define the modern fleet.
To address these challenges, the Port of Grays Harbor has developed the Westport Marina Modernization Plan as a strategic, multi-phase blueprint for revitalizing the marina’s infrastructure. The plan outlines a comprehensive replacement, rehabilitation, and reconfiguration of the existing floating docks to meet the needs of today’s fishing industry and recreational users. Spanning six phases over the near, mid, and long term, the modernization effort will improve vessel safety, increase ADA accessibility, support seafood offload operations, and enhance access for commercial, tribal, and recreational users alike. In addition to replacing aging docks, the plan calls for critical upgrades to utilities, pilings, and access points, with an eye toward environmental resilience, operational efficiency, and long-term economic sustainability.
Phase 1 of the Marina Modernization Plan consists of four major projects:
Float 21 Replacement, Float 19 Removal
Design Complete, Construction Partially Funded, Fully Permitted, EPA Grant Submitted
Float 15 Replacement
Float 17 Replacement
Float 11 Dock Rehabilitation and Work Float
All projects will include new Access Abutments, ADA-accessible ramps, upgraded electrical and water systems.
