Port of Grays Harbor celebrates summer hires and interns

Aberdeen, WA – From the Westport Marina to Satsop Business Park, the Port of Grays Harbor welcomed an array of summer hires and interns to support Port operations and its facilities. The Port was proud to provide opportunities for new and returning staff, as well as student interns dedicated to strengthening the Port’s legacy of success and furthering its mission of driving economic development.
Westport Marina
The Port welcomed back Doll Camp, who previously retired from the Port in 2015. Doll rejoined the team at the Westport Marina office where she takes moorage reservations, prepares deposits and helps moorage customers.
Aberdeen High School graduate, Saylor Heikkila joined Doll at the Westport Marina working as a summer office assistant. Saylor attends Menlo College in Atherton, CA studying business, specifically Artificial Intelligence. She will be a sophomore this fall.
Additionally, the Westport Marina welcomed five maintenance crew members. These summer hires were responsible for maintenance of the facilities and docks, as well as keeping inventory of the boats in the busy boat basin:
Ethan LaRocque graduated from Aberdeen High School in June and will attend South Puget Sound Community College to study Communications. This was Ethan’s third summer working at the Westport Marina.
Greg Gitchel attends Grays Harbor College where he is studying Welding Technology. This was also Greg’s third summer with us at the Westport Marina.
Ryker Scott will be a senior at Aberdeen High School and is a Running Start student at Grays Harbor College working towards an associate’s degree. This was Ryker’s second year at the Marina.
Dylan Carroll and Grady Osina will also be seniors at Aberdeen High School and worked their first summer at the Westport Marina.
Victoria Baughman, a Westport native, joined the team after working at Washington State Parks where she was a Park Aid assisting Park Rangers. This was Victoria’s first year at the Westport Marina.
Satsop Business Park
Satsop welcomed Foster Patterson. Foster graduated from Aberdeen High School and also holds an associate’s degree from Grays Harbor College and just completed his second year at the University of Washington studying Music Education. Foster conducted maintenance work at the Park and Friends Landing in Montesano.
Main Port Office
Carson Borden from Raymond, WA joined the Port as an Engineering Intern, where he assisted with capital projects, stormwater management to control water quality and documenting project progress. Carson has an associate’s degree from Grays Harbor College and is a third year Civil Engineering student at Washington State University.
Madison Campbell from Montesano, WA was the Port’s first-ever Communications Intern. Madi assisted with the preparation of communications materials, community and educational outreach and events. She will be a senior at the University of Arizona majoring in Communication with a minor in Public Relations.
“We were excited to bring on such an awesome group of summer hires and interns this year,” said Port of Grays Harbor Executive Director Leonard Barnes. “This exceptional group of hires made a big impact on our ability to get projects accomplished during our busy summer months. We are proud to offer these employment opportunities as we continue to grow and invest in our workforce and the community.”
